Completed Preliminary Task
The top image displays my front cover and the bottom image is my design for the contents page. The main focus image on my title page shows a first year student that for the purpose of the magazine is giving a review about the college. this will be one of the main focuses of the magazine hence the picture being full sized in accordance to the page size. The main pictures used on the contents page are their as insights to what the stories will be about. For example the monster logo is their to insight on the ban on energy drinks story.
Student Magazine Market: Research & Planning (Contents Page)
For this task, just like the task of similar title, I used Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer in order to complete the task.

Student Magazine Market: Research & Planning (Front Cover)
For this part of the task, I researched the market of magazine covers and a did a brief analysis of them on Microsoft Word discussing similarities they all shared as well as unique traits they all possessed.
Preparing the Front Cover Image
The front cover image used on my magazine is the same edited image I explained in the previous post.
The image displayed is the original of the edited image. The shot size of the image is a mid-shot used to draw attention to the face. Balance was considered as well as it is simple to say that the image is almost symmetrical in terms of content on each half of the photo. Rule of Thirds was slightly considered as the main focus of the image lies within what would be the centre grid.
For the edited version of the original, as shown above I made a few changes using Adobe Photoshop CS6. Firstly I used Polygonal Lasso tool to cut out the part of the image I wanted to use. I then refined the edge of the image and cleared away any other colours that weren't necessary to me. I proceeded to add a backdrop using the gradient tool to give that washed effect. Then I changed the image to a black and white image to create a bolder impression for the front cover. I also altered the exposure settings to make the blacks, whites and greys more definitive to make the image even bolder. Another edit I did to the image was change the brightness and contrast to further refine the shades.

Task 2 - Photoshoot 1 (Edited photos)
Also for task 2 I put some images through Adobe Photoshop CS6 for editing. The main image edited was the cut out that features as a main focus for the cover page of my college magazine.
The above image is the edited image used as my main focus for the college magazine. the top image from the bottom image underwent several editing techniques in Photoshop. This included changing the brightness slightly, altering the vibrancy very minutely and simply then changing the image to a black and white format. The image was also cut out using the polygonal lasso tool to isolate the part of the image I wanted. From that I removed any remaining background colours so it was literally just a cut out. I then put the image onto a fresh background that was faded grey using the gradient tool.
Task 2 - Photoshoot 1
For this task I had top go around college practicing framing, compositional and shot sizes by taking photos of things in and around college. Whilst doing the task I had to consider several different compositional techniques including: Balance and Rule of Thirds. Also such techniques like using lines and contrast were considered when completing this task.
Preliminary Task
For the preliminary task I had to take my own photos for use on the new made up college magazine, both on the front cover and the contents page. In order to make the pictures suitable for use on the magazine I had to edit them in Adobe Photoshop CS6. For the editing I simply altered the brightness and touched up the colours to make them seem more visually appealing to a viewer. After I was finished with the editing of the images, I then created my own college magazine front cover and contents page using Adobe InDesign, the front cover consisted of a main focus cover image with a few taglines around the cover as well as my title and sell line.
